This is not going to be just a page of links. I want you to find the bunkhouse or group accommodation that is best for you and your group. I have looked at all these sites, talked to the owners and ensured that all of the accommodation here is set up to cater for groups of all sizes and outdoor enthusiasts in particular. Dunfield House
Standing in 15 acres of gardens and woodland, Dunfield is a beautiful group accommodation centre set in a peaceful rural location. Dunfield House offers excellent facilities that allows your group to meet together as a community. Dunfield welcomes schools, faith groups, music courses, and family/friends gatherings where you can create a unique programme and experience for your group.
In our bunk-style accommodation, we can offer self-catering or a catered service for up to 22 people in our Stables accommodation and full catering for up to 73 guests in the main house. We can also hire out the whole site, with additional sofa beds to fully cater for up to 100 people. Our full catering includes three home-cooked meals a day with puddings, baked goods and teas/coffees.
In the grounds at Dunfield, you can explore our lawned terraces, woodlands and orchard and play football, volleyball, team games and disc golf. We also have an outdoor meeting area, a labyrinth and campfire sites. In addition to our accommodation buildings, our indoor facilities include a heated swimming pool and a games room with table tennis and pool table, which are inclusive of the accommodation price.

Holly Tree House
Full of character, on the edge of the woods at the end of a private lane this beautiful three storey Victorian house nestles in the heart of the Wye Valley with stunning views over the wonderful River Wye and up to famous Yat Rock. The house easily accommodates 22 people and is perfect for family get-togethers, special occasions, celebrations, reunions and fun, activity-based holidays, ideal for group self catering holidays in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean.
It combines genuine peace and quiet (apart from the sound of the river) and absolutely no traffic, with loads of outdoor activities to do nearby and 3 excellent pub/restaurants within walking distance (plus one that’s accessed by river ferr.). Little Gaerfields
Sleeping up to 25 in the main house in 9 bedrooms and 8 bathroom/wet rooms plus 2 extra in the shepherds hut makes it an ideal house to to celebrate a special occasion with family and friends from a hen party to a golden wedding anniversary. Lots of love and attention to detail have gone into converting our old milking barn into the house it is today with quirky little corners here and there, we have the little extra’s like all the lovely comfortable 6′ superking beds which can be made as singles meaning 25 single beds if needed, a chef to come and cook wonderful meals and clear away if you want to really chill out with a glass of wine or two . Underfloor heating for the cold winter months makes sure the house is always warm and toasty.
New for 2023 is Tre – Vern. A very modern dutch style barn, sleeping 28 across 11 bedrooms. It has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
Besides the garden and field for a game of cricket, football or whatever is your chosen sport there is the indoor heated swimming pool, swim jet and sauna or a walk across the fields to the local pub. Herefordshire nestled on the border of Wales has a lot to offer those who want to explore local history or activities with the famous Yat rock at Symonds Yat being 5 miles away nestling under the Royal Forest of Dean.

Lowe Farm, Much Dewchurch
Lowe Farm is a spacious holiday home having been recently refurbished to a very high standard and is the perfect holiday spot for group gatherings to celebrate a big birthday or anniversary, multi-generational family holidays, or groups of like-minded friends planning a walking, cycling or outdoor adventure holiday. The property caters for 24 guests in 10 bedrooms. There is a dining area for everyone to eat together and a very well equipped kitchen. It has the added benefit of a games room, with pool table and football table. There is also a hot tub that can be booked as an optional extra if required. We are also able to offer clay pigeon shooting on site.
The house is nestled in the peaceful surroundings of 230-acres of fields, woodland and lakes on a working Herefordshire arable farm, with panoramic views towards the Black Mountains in neighbouring Wales. The Black Swan a 14th century public house is just a short walk from the property.

Monnington House
Group Accommodation in Herefordshire Monnington House and Cider Mill provides luxury self catering accommodation in an unspoilt and rural location on the edge of a family farm. It is almost equidistant from Hereford to Hay and close to the River Wye. It is a perfect situation for discovering the Wye Valley, Brecon Beacons and beyond. There are top quality beds to sleep 18 in 9 spacious bedrooms each with their own bathroom or shower. A large well equipped kitchen which is easy to work in is located next to the dining area which seats up to 20. All 3 reception rooms have woodburners and comfy sofas.
The Cider Mill can be booked seperately or with the main house it sleeps 6. taking the total to 24 which, can all be accommodated in the main house for dining. The games room in the outbuildings has pool and table football and there is a rustic table tennis room. Guests so far have celebrated their big birthdays at the house and we regularly see reunions of parties who love the outdoors. From here you can go canoeing on the Wye, mountain biking in the Brecon Beacons, walking extensively in the surrounding hills and you are only 45 minutes from the nearest gorge walking area. We are lucky to have a wide range of pubs all within 20 minutes drive from excellent value to Michelin star.

Old Brampton Barn
Old Brampton Barn is a superb barn conversion in an idyllic secluded setting 300 yards from the River Wye, near Ross on Wye. We offer both self-catered and bed-and-breakfast accommodation, for groups of up to 16. The barn is reached by a country track and is in an area of outstanding beauty. The Wye Valley Way, the Ross way and Herefordshire trail all converge just below the barn near the river. There is a canoe launching site on the river near the barn and outstanding country walks, ideal for dogs, children and adult ramblers. Fishing is also available, day tickets can be obtained in Ross. This is country heaven.

Old Great Marlborough
Surrounded by wild meadows and with far-reaching rural views, Old Great Marlborough is our lovingly restored Welsh farmhouse. It is perfect for large groups, families and friends looking for a rural escape to the Black Mountains. This once-forgotten, traditional Welsh farmhouse is immersed in both history and beauty and has been respectfully restored to comfortably sleep up to 22 people.
The house has 3 acres of its own grounds which are set in mature gardens and lawns and feature a tennis court with a viewing pavilion, paved terraces with a built-in covered barbecue area. The house is at the end of a track which is itself off a B road about 11/2 miles outside of Grosmont Village so it is very secluded.
The accommodation consists of 4 x super king rooms, 1 x king room 2 x family rooms on split levels sleeping 4 in each room 1 x twin and 1 x bunk bedroom all with their own en-suits. There is an additional shower room for when you step out of the wood-fired hot tub. The large country kitchen is always welcoming with the AGA, an additional oven and hob unit a built-in microwave, marble work surfaces and a large breakfast table. The main room (30 x 20) has a substantial open fireplace and is a very welcoming room with large sofas and chairs. The dining room with its antique dining table and dressers can seat groups of at least 18 adults comfortably.
There is also a conservatory, a games den in the cella with snooker and table football. A sports room where you can play table tennis, badminton as well as soft play for the younger members of the group

River Wye Lodge
With its face looking out on the River Wye, and its back to the Royal Forest of Dean, River Wye Lodge is the perfect large group self catering holiday accommodation in the Forest of Dean or Wye Valley. We have converted this country inn to provide the space, location and facilities to ensure that you have a genuinely memorable holiday. Great for groups of friends, families, reunions, celebrations, activitiy holidays or simply relaxing in stunning surroundings. There is more than enough space to sleep 26 in 12 bedrooms, (10 ensuite) including a ground floor en suite disabled twin room. The large atmospheric lounge has a wood burner, satellite TV, DVD player and music system, while the dining room comfortably accommodates 26 round the table. The Colloquy
The Colloquy is a very large and chic retreat for a family celebration, a university re-union or a big birthday. It also provides a contemporary location for corporate retreats, board meetings, management courses or executive training. Bedrooms vary in size and shape but not, we think, comfort. Bathrooms or wetrooms are more generously proportioned than many ordinary bedrooms; king size pocket sprung beds and Egyptian cotton linen are the rule. Three of the bedrooms have mezzanine galleries, two have their own kitchen (and the two other pairs share one each). So there’s no need to pad downstairs if you fancy an impromptu midnight feast. Trevase Cottages
Trevase Granary, converted in 2007, and Penblaith Barn, added in 2010, are traditional stone buildings that combine 18th century character with 21st century luxury and style. Castle Farm, Capel-y-ffin, Monmouthshire
The Bunk barn and Granary can only be rented in conjunction with the Farmhouse. Our weeks run Friday to Friday, weekend breaks are available from Friday, mid-week breaks Monday to Friday. All the bedrooms have big, cosy beds, thick duvets, quality bed linen (please note that towels can be provided as an extra), either freestanding wardrobes or chests of drawers and plenty of homely touches. There are eight altogether, with four extra sets of bunks in the Barns.
This is not a house for lovers of ensuite facilities, but there are three downstairs bathrooms in the farmhouse and cottage, and a shower room in the main barn. The Farmhouse is decorated in traditional country style, with big cosy sofas and chairs, painted brick walls, low wooden beams and a huge open fireplace in the farmhouse living room that’s a joy to come home to at the end of a day in the fresh air. Fairlea Grange, Monmouthshire
Fairlea Grange is an imposing Gothic Townhouse 5 minutes walk from the station and 10 minutes from the centre of Abergavenny which is right at the foothills of the Brecon Beacon. It has 10 bedrooms which comfortably accommodate 24+ people, with a couple of additions in z beds plus 2 cots for infants. Bedrooms are large and welcoming, family bathrooms are similarly spacious (one has a 6 person sauna!).
It has two lounges with large wood burning stoves, 2 big TVs with Sky, a Home Cinema basement lounge, a well equipped kitchen (with an Aga too), a large dining room with an attached annexe for the kids should you wish to dine them separately, plus mini-gym and games room.
Outside in the large walled garden there’s lawns for games, (you could book a Team Challenge from us if you like) a hot tub, patio with barbecue area and outdoor furniture, and ample parking for 6 cars in the drive and plenty of additional on street parking.
Well behaved pets are very welcome. Because of its residential location the Grange is not suitable for single sex groups or raucous parties.

The accommodation sleeps up to 24 people and is perfect for a self catering holiday. It is ideal for family occasions, birthday celebrations, reunions, and holiday breaks with kids. You can relax by the pool, walk through the hills, bike on traffic free lanes, canoe or cruise the River Wye , enjoy unlimited local activities and award winning pubs and restaurants, or wind down in the hot tub. Smithy’s Bunkhouse, Monmouthshire
Accommodation – the Bunk House consists of two dormitories sleeping 24 with separate showers, wash-hand basins and a drying area. The kitchen is adjacent with a separate common room across the way. The common room has a tiled floor, wood burning stove and easy chairs. A quantity of wood is supplied and extra can be purchased at a very reasonable price. There is some extra room above the common room which is usually used by group, leaders or snorer’s (whichever the louder).
The kitchen is fully equipped with a catering sized gas cooker with hobs, microwave and fridges together with an ample supply of cutlery and utensils. Bench seating and tables provide space to eat inside and there are picnic benches outside should the weather permit eating al fresco.

Colliers Bunkhouse
Our bunkhouse accommodation is situated at the back of The Colliers Inn and opens out onto a large pub garden with a paved patio area and picnic tables. The bunkhouse sleeps a maximum of 38 people. We have a room that accommodates 12, a room that accommodates 10 and the remainder is made up of rooms that accommodate 4.
All of the rooms are heated and all of the beds are supplied with fitted sheets and pillows but you will need to provide your own sleeping bag or duvet along with a towel. There are separate gents and ladies washrooms along with two heated shower rooms with hair/body wash soap dispensers.
The bunkhouse costs £25 per person per night which includes a full cooked English breakfast. We’re more than happy to provide a veggie breakfast, but please let us know in advance so we can properly cater for your needs. Kettles and mugs are provided but you will need to bring your tea and coffee, although we can provide these for a small extra charge should you forget.
Check in time is from 2pm and we ask that you are checked out before 11am. That said both these times are flexible so please ask if you have any special requirements. Safe storage is available for bikes, canoes etc, we also have an outside tap for hosing down your bikes and wellies as well as drying facilities if you get wet on your adventures.

Mill End
The General Stores, Mill End Mitcheldean is located on the edge of a village, which has all the amenities one might need for a weekend away for forest style outdoor active holidays or a self-catering weekend in a big country house. Most of our bookings are two-night weekend breaks to celebrate a big occasion. We specialise in hen parties though other group types are catered for, including biking weekends, wellness retreats, big birthdays & corporate Christmas gatherings. Mill End is a 4 star holiday or business let sleeping up to 34 guests over 3 parts of a large house, with dining facilities for 40. It can be hired with the small cottage next door to make for a group of 40 or the main part of the big house can be hired on its own for groups of 20/25.
Or the small cottage can be hired on its own, sleeping 6/8, with a hot tub and outdoor wood fired sauna cabin. Either way, both properties are secure for bikes at night. We cater for families and those with pets, plus bike enthusiasts with bike racks, boot racks, hose down area and outdoor hanging space for wet clothes for bikers and walkers. Oakraven Field Centre
Oakraven Field Centre provides comfortable accommodation throughout the year in a unique peaceful setting well away from the noise of towns. Our accommodation and 1.5 acres of grounds are available for exclusive hire for a large family or educational/training groups. An adjacent 3.0 acre woodland reserve is also available for quiet enjoyment and educational or training uses.
Oakraven consists of a large communal hall heated by a woodburner and five bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 34 people. All five bedrooms have electric radiators. There is a games room and a large kitchen with two cookers, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. There are male and female toilets and four showers.
Externally, the main building and its grounds are bounded by a stone wall with metal entrance gates. The field centre is primarily a self-catering facility, however see our catering page for possible options. The beds have quilted mattress protectors, pillows, pillow cases, but otherwise you must bring your own bedding (although a limited number of duvets are available at a small additional cost).
The centre welcomes children and we are dog friendly. We have free high speed optical fibre Wi-Fi. Oakraven is located in a quiet lane, bordering the picturesque western edge of the Forest of Dean. It is ideally situated for most outdoor activities, and there are pubs and other facilities just a mile away in the village of Mitcheldean.

The Anchor
Sleeping up to 22 in 8 bedrooms, The Anchor, which served the village as a pub for over 300 years, might have been designed for large group self catering holidays. The setting is beautiful and the location magical. If you want to stay home, you couldn’t have a better spot: play games, relax in the hot tub, sit in the garden soaking up the sun, barbecue on the terrace, stroll down to the river bank, and call in at the Forge Hammer for a quick drink and chat with the locals. If you wanted to do something a bit livelier then have a go at Team Challenge which is run in the gardens right here.
This charming village pub retains many of the original features and decor from its trading days. Indoors 6 of the 8 rooms are en suite while the others has their own opposite. One of the 8 is the ground floor the snug housing a sofa-bed with adjoining bathroom and loo which is also handy for evening bath time for children. There is an extra wc cloakroom with disabled separate lavatory as well.
Above all you’ll be staying in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley surrounded by some of Britain’s loveliest unspoilt countryside

Q. WHAT IS GROUP ACCOMMODATION.
A. Various types of buildings will qualify as group accommodation, it is basically the ability to accommodate a large number of people often in a self catering capacity. The sleeping arrangements could be single beds, double beds or bunk beds.
Q. WHAT IS BUNKHOUSE ACCOMMODATION.
A. A bunkhouse is a building that will usually sleep a large number of people in bunk beds. The accommodation can be basic but will always be clean and well maintained. Many can be booked for sole use and most will allow a smaller group to book the accommodation but you could be sharing with other people.
Q. WHAT DOES SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION PROVIDE.
A. Self catering accommodation will always have a well equipped kitchen capable of catering for the maximum number of occupants. There will also be fridges and often freezers to take all the food that a large group would bring.
